I thought this was already made clear...

"Just so everyone understands what's going on. The problem is fixed. Our
kernel now supports this. However, it seems that certain CD image types
(desktop that I know of) doesn't contain the jmicron driver. I've
already filed a bug on this and marked it for ubuntu-6.10 release
milestone. Hopefully when it gets fixed, it will start showing up in the
daily's."

So its only a matter of time now. At least we know it will definitely be fixed by the end of the month.
