Public bug reported:

Upgraded from Breezy to dapper flight 5 by apt-get. on an Asus A5Ec
notebook

Kernel is 2.6.15-19-686
Sound applet shows sound not working, when clicked it says that no sound card is configured.

The normal module for this is snd-hda-intel. On running sudo modprobe
snd-hda-intel the following error messages are received:

FATAL: Error inserting snd (/lib/modules/2.6.15-19-686/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error running install command for snd
WARNING: Error inserting snd_timer (/lib/modules/2.6.15-19-686/kernel/sound/core/snd-timer.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd (/lib/modules/2.6.15-19-686/kernel/sound/core/snd.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

FATAL: Error inserting snd_pcm (/lib/modules/2.6.15-19-686/kernel/sound/core/snd-pcm.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
WARNING: Error running install command for snd_pcm
WARNING: Error inserting snd_hda_codec (/lib/modules/2.6.15-19-686/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-codec.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
FATAL: Error inserting snd_hda_intel (/lib/modules/2.6.15-19-686/kernel/sound/pci/hda/snd-hda-intel.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

My apologies if this is not a bug, but it is best for someone who knows
to have a look at it!

Note: the original reporter indicated the bug was in package 'alsa'; however, that package was not published in Ubuntu.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Low
         Status: Needs Info
