I have a Dell inspiron 630m + Ubuntu Dapper, and I have the same
problem. I don't have sound with mic imput. There isn't  the 20db
amplification in sound configuration. Mic input is completely mute. It
is a small lie, If I shout very extremely in mic at the same time as the
reading  music, I can hear 0,5% of my voice.

I wish a fix bug in ubuntu edgy
