Me too:
ASUS K5N8-E
nVIDIA chipset
xubuntu freshly installed
it was a real HORROR:
xubuntu slow down at boot with hard disk led always ON, and system
really slow
with acpi and APIC support enabled on bios my ethernet card was seen as
... a FIREWIRE card!!! 8(
acpi=off was only a workaround but NO PS/2 MOUSE can be configured,
because is not seen in /proc/bus/input/devices!!! Also I had strange
system locks about 5 minutes after the boot up, with no message in log
files. HORROR!!!
pci=nommconf worked well for me, now i'm happy. :)
p.s. i HATE LINUX for these things :(
