I have the same controller on an HP L2000 Special Edition (L2105CL).  It
worked fine under Dapper Drake, then didn't under Edgy Eft.  I was able
to invoke it by typing 'sudo setpci -s05:09.3 4c.b=0x02' to get it to
load under Edgy Eft, then it would recognize the cards after they were
inserted.  However, since I upgraded to Feisty Fawn yesterday I can't
even use that command to get it to work.  Has something changed?
