You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Dell D800 laptop.
Clean CD Gusty 7.10 release installed
***Unsure if this has been problem in past as only tested parallel port with this printer under XP Pro OS. Did not try it under Feisty, either.
Checked BIOS to find current setting is for "Normal". Have tried different settings like ECP, etc. No change.

While undocked a parallel printer can be configured and used as expected.
Once docked the port does not seem to exist.
