I can confirm this behaviour.
However in my case it seemed to be caused by the file /etc/bklid.tab which had wrong UUIDs: I had moved my root-fs to another harddisk with different UUIDs half a year ago and had forgotten to update the UUIDs in /etc/blkid.tab. The upgrade from feisty to gutsy didn't seem to update these values either.
So the new kernel-upgrade must have taken the wrong UUID from /etc/blkid.tab und put it into /boot/grub/menu.lst. Maybe you could check if this is the case on your laptop, too.
