You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I have a Dell Latitude D600 laptop, and a sitecom 32 bit gigabit pcmcia
cardbus ethernet card (uses the r8169 driver - see
http://www.sitecom.com/product.php?productname=Network+Cardbus+Gigalan+10%2F100%2F1000&productcode=CB-005&productid=404&subgroupid=2
).
It works really well normally, but if I plug in the card then remove it,
I can no longer launch any new processes. I don't see any panic, or oops
from the kernel but something is clearly getting broken.
Reinserting the card does nothing at all as far as I know, but I cannot tell for sure since I then cannot run dmesg to check.
Certainly though, the LEDs on the device do not light back up.
In Windows, I am able to remove and reinsert the cards as much as I like
so I don't think it's a hardware problem.
Also, this exact thing happens if I remove the CD-ROM from the bay (new
processes cannot start etc, sometimes get hardlock). Again, this works
100% in XP.
I'm running up-to-date Dapper.
Thanks for reading,
Andy.
