I have the same/a similar problem, running xubuntu (6.10,
2.6.17-10-generic) on an Acer TravelMate C102TCi Tablet PC. In my case
only the player freezes, everything  else works fine, but I need to
reboot (!) to play videos again. Restarting X doesn't help.

might be related to my bug specifically (I am using the same video card) or to this bug in general.
