[Bug 80578] Sometimes, no new windows can be opened after suspend

Public bug reported:

After a suspend (both suspend-to-disk and suspend-to-ram), gnome doesn't
open new windows sometimes. After waking up, the password entry dialog
is shown on a black screen. Entering the (correct) password takes me to
the usual desktop screen. Starting new applications (e.g., clicking on
the firefox icon) will cause the cursor to spin for a while (longer than
usually) and the "Starting Firefox" (or whatever) tab thingy to be
displayed in the window list at the bottom of the screen. However, no
window is opened. Looking at the output of ps(1) reveals that the
started process is indeed running, albeit rather uselessly...

This behaviour occurs only sometimes with no apparent regularity.

Once, I have observed that all the windows that should have opened
suddenly opened almost simultaneously after a couple of minutes had
passed.

When this problem occurs, restarting gdm (sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart)
solves it.

I am using Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS on a Samsung X20 XVM 1730 V laptop.

** Affects: linux-source-2.6.15 (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
