I have a Dell Inspiron 600m with the Intel 82801DB-ICH4. The Mic does
not work here as well in Feisty.

This might help: While running GDM, using the sound up / sound down and
mute special keys on the notebook keyboard does not affect the Master
volume on the Gnome Volume Control applet, ditto with KMix. However,
these keys do affect the mic level (i.e., the mic slider moves when I
press those special keys).

It is also worth noting that the sound keys on the keyboard work
properly when running KDM.
