This still happens; I've got a D610 running Gutsy.  Natively, I can get
no sound through the docking station's TRS headphone jack while docked.

There is a "fix" -

Enable the IEC958 checkbox in the ALSA mixer and it starts putting sound out through the docking station's headphone jack.
