I seem to be having this problem and I can reproduce it in any
application in ubuntu if I type long enough.  Something that I've
noticed tonight, since I'm in a dark room is that my mouse comes alive
at any time the bug occurs.  I have an LED optical mouse.  When not in
use, the mouse is dark, but when you move it, it lights up.   When ever
the bug occurs, the mouse lights up like it was just moved.
