As far as disks getting hot, 42 - 57 is pretty normal for most disks.
57-60 is pushing it, and and above 60 is excessive.

The largest threat for disks isn't from heat, it's from the load/unload
cycles (although there should be some kind of shutdown mechanism for hd
temp, if there's not).

Using the /etc/pm/<config.d/power.d>/disk files works fine for me.
System not running hot, and not having problems with the hd cycles.
