I've plugged this device into 3 different Kubuntu Hardy boxes, both
amd64 and i386, two desktops and a laptop (lenovo).

The drives are not detected on hot plug. However, after hotplug i find
that executing "lsusb" causes the device to show up (and the regular
kubuntu prompt appears asking if one wants to open folder, etc). Forces
re-scan of usb devices? Things seem to work normally at that point.
(Speed bursts and falls back... pretty normal for USB mass storage i
think.)

For me, after "lsusb" the device does not disappear again after a few
seconds as suggested by the last note, but continues to work normally.

I also get the same dmesg errors as reported above.

(The same device has also been plugged into 3 windows boxes (xp and
vista), and appears to be detected and work fine on all of them.)
