Fully patched system, Ubuntu Dapper 6.06.2 LTS, all current packages
except for the kernel. Upgrading from fresh DistributionCD install to
2.6.15-52-386 kernel.
After the upgrade (and reboot), the system recognized the card (lspci) ,
recognized the wireless infrastructure (iwlist scan), performed the DHCP
broadcasts, but refused to establish networking. Two different RTL8139
type cards were tried. Attempts to establish networking manually have
also failed.
lspci: 0000:06:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL8180L 802.11b MAC (rev 20)
mysys:~$ lsmod|egrep "rtl|818"
r818x 84620 0
ieee80211_rtl 83464 1 r818x
mysys:~$ modprobe -l|egrep "rtl|818"
/lib/modules/2.6.15-52-386/kernel/drivers/usb/net/rtl8150.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-52-386/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rtl_ieee80211/ieee80211-rtl.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-52-386/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rtl818x/r818x.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.15-52-386/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/rtl8187/r8187.ko
Other card types (e.g. PCMCIA/Intersil and CardBus/ADM8211) continue to
function just fine. And the RTL8139 cards work on similar systems
running the 2.6.15-29-386 kernel.
thanks,
/dave
