Thank you Neil, nicely explained and all understood, I think I can
manage that, first to try the Serialmonkey rt73 and then maybe
ndiswrapper if there is no success.  I will keep the kernels 2.6.22, and
2.6.24 (on separate systems) up to date in any case (fingers crossed it
gets fixed)

Thank you too, NoWhereMan, I will eventually try that if necessary.  The
live cd is not any problem to me, just to help with the background info.
