I'm having this same problem on ubuntu beta.  The USB card reader
attempts to use the uchi_hcd driver when I have the USB->Serial adapter
plugged in.  If I rmmod uhci_hcd and re-plug in the Compact Flash card
then the card works jsut fine.

The problem is that I'm trying to make Flash cards for booting a soekris
and need the Serial adapter at the same time!  ah well ;)
