Hi Paul,

Sorry for coming back so late. 
I did not remove the ehci_hcd module as far as I can remember. After rebooting I managed to write on the MMC card, but the mount point was still unstable. I have not had more problems so far, but I have not used the card much either, just a couple of times with small files.
