I had the same problem with my WD MyBook EssentialEdition 320GB. I could
solve it with the following command:

echo "128" > /sys/block/sda/device/max_sectors

where /dev/sda is the device in question. I haven't had a disconnect for
a few weeks now. I'm (still) on Ubuntu Gutsy, 2.6.22-14-generic.
