I can also confirm the problem with the ubuntu intrpeid beta release on an  HP/Compaq 6715s. The system is very very slow.
Ubuntu Hardy with 2.6.24-19 kernel worked fine but the wlan wasn't working, so I installed intrepid where wlan works now but everything is to slow :-( I think I have to switch back to hardy an patch the wlan driver because intrepid is too slow. I really want to see a fix or a reason for this slowness problem
