As a noob, I don't know what "modprobe" is but I have a Q70 running
Ubuntu 8.04 - fully patched - with Linux kernel 2.6.24-21 generic. I'm
willing to answer questions if required in order to help get this
resolved - its incredibly irritating!

Something I did try and can report is an error from the script on bug
248906:

Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownMethod: Method "GetBrightness"
with signature "" on interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.LaptopPanel"
doesn't exist
