Thanks a lot for this fix.

I tried adding "acpi=force" in /boot/grub/menu.lst but this didn't help.
I removed again the "acpi=foce" from the grub menu and added
"/sbin/rmmod snd_hda_intel" in /etc/default/halt. Now shut down works !

I've an Asus P5AD2premium motherboard, Hardy 8.04 kernel 2.6.24-21.
