Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: linux-image
fter using the recommended (desktop gui) method to upgrade from 8.04 to
8.10 I now have an unbootable system.
The method I used is here:
http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/upgrading
After a reboot I see the message "Error 17: cannot mount selected partition".
The boot entry is missing an initrd line. Adding it does not help.
Booting the old kernel does not help.
Changing hd(0,0) to hd(0,anything) does not help.
This is a system originally installed with the 8.04 desktop alternative cd to use disk encryption.
Disk encryption must be supported since no warning was given on the upgrade page, or (more importantly) in the system upgrade tool.
** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
