I can also confirm the bugs described her.

Here is also a question to the experts: boot process only takes me up to  "root at ubuntu" on a console (i.e. no graphical surface). 
Will I at this point at all be able to fetch system updates (that perhaps fix the bug) via internet?
Or will I need to do a complete reinstall of karmic from CD?
