Sadly, after persisting with Network Manager's inconsistent connections,
I am taking Tiger99's advice (post #217) and using Betavine and wicd to
get reliable, first-time connection.

I say sadly, because I want Ubuntu to work ootb. But this has been an up
c**k from the beta version of Karmic.

Sadly, too, because it seems that nobody from Canonical is paying
attention to users. Why else would there be over 300 (many angry) posts
on this bug -- and growing?
