Can someone involved in official Ubuntu packaging possibly give some
guidelines on the recommended minimal steps required to workaround this
bug on Intrepid? Since it sounds like it's going to be with us for a
while...

Are external packages really required? Is a solution with ALSA
preferred? Do I need to create an alsaboost device? Nothing seems to
work for me. EEEK!
