No, I have not tried the "options video acpi_backlight=vendor" with the
2.6.27-11.23smb2 kernel.

I just tried setting "options video acpi_backlight=vendor" in
/etc/modules.d/options for kernel 2.6.27-11.22 and it did work. However,
the brightest I can go feels like the lowest setting in 2.6.27-11.23 or
2.6.27-10. In a bright room the highest setting is barely readable.
Also, there is no /proc/acpi/video/ directory so I can't really check
the value am I at.
