The following scenario might cause this: (a) you have
CONTROL_HD_POWERMGMT=1 in laptop-mode.conf, and (b) you have
ENABLE_LAPTOP_MODE_WHEN_LID_CLOSED=1 in laptop-mode.conf. It might be
something else though!
