Public bug reported:
I wanted to move photos from my cell phone to my computer over
Bluetooth. I have an IOGEAR GBU421 Bluetooth USB dongle. My phone is the
Samsung Glyde (SCH-u940). The dongle appears to be a broadcom chip that
has the same issue as documented in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/121421, in that I have to execute
sudo hciconfig hci0 reset
for the computer/phone to discover each other.
Anyway, "the problem": When I attempt to pair, originating from the
phone, the computer freezes - display locked, keyboard unresponsive,
etc. (When originating in the other direction, the computer cannot
connect to the phone.) The phone gives an error message, but the
computer is totally unresponsive and needs to be powered down.
btw, the computer is an HP Pavilion ze2000, running Ubuntu 8.04; it's
current with all updates as of this week.
---
I added a "-d" flag to the hcid startup options in
/etc/init.d/bluetooth; the following is a snippet from /var/log/debug
from one time the machine froze. IIRC, it starts just before the attempt
to pair from the phone. The machine froze after the last entry below.
