Did you still have i915 loading via initramfs-tools when you tried
editing /etc/modules? from the previous reports it sounds like that was
the case. If you use a mainline PPA kernel you'll have to add all 3 in
that order to /etc/initramfs-tools/modules to get it to work, the patch
to make it work via only editing /etc/modules or /etc/modprobe.d/ conf
options is only in the karmic kernels for future reference. Glad you
have it fixed!
