Here is my reasoning..

"One change that we did make between 2.6.31 and 2.6.32 is that we enable
journal checksums by default."

"by default" suggests that a 2.6.31 could be built with journal
checksums enabled?

And maybe I'm reading wrong but it doesn't look DM specific..
