Sorry, should have included all info in one post.....

The modem is a 3G vodafone jobby from Australia...
lsusb shows: Bus 003 Device 003: ID 12d1:1001 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E620 USB Modem
uname -a shows: 2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:04:26 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux
