Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: linux-generic-pae

With linux-generic-pae, modprobing snd-hrtimer makes system unstable, and eventually leads to complete hang.
This happens (for example) using Rosegarden: if I load snd-hrtimer to have a good sequencer timer source, in a few seconds the system hangs, with cpu load at 100%.

this is my lsub for my midi device:
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0a92:1806 EGO SYStems, Inc.

my audio card is:
00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP72XE/MCP72P/MCP78U/MCP78S High Definition Audio (rev a1)

My pc is a Phenom II x3 720 on an Asus M3N78 board with 4Gb of RAM

** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
