Interesting comment.  I have private doubts that this bug is totally due to hardware 'quality' problems (see the current kernel bug report).

If the hardware was at fault then: firstly, the bug would not be spread
over such a range of differing hardware, and secondly, Ubuntu 9.04
should also be failing in a similar manner?
