I can confirm this bug in Ubuntu 9.04 and Ubuntu 9.10 beta 1 on Thinkpad
r50e. The volume keys do not trigger any software response and no osd is
shown. Additionally, this is the case also for brightness buttons, but
both work well. And I also agree that the mute button should not restore
volume level.
