I tried upgrading my Jaunty 64-bit to Karmic today. It kept failing, telling me it "held broken packages." After some investigation, I tried installing the linux-headers package. There were some errors in the log about that. Once I installed the headers, the upgrade started fine.
Here's what I think is relevant from the log:
Installing linux-headers-generic as dep of dkms
Starting
Starting 2
Investigating linux-headers-generic
Package linux-headers-generic has broken dep on linux-headers-2.6.31-8-generic
Investigating bcmwl-kernel-source
Package bcmwl-kernel-source has broken dep on linux-headers-generic
Considering linux-headers-generic 1 as a solution to bcmwl-kernel-source 9999
Reinst Failed early because of linux-headers-2.6.31-8-generic
Done
** Affects: linux-meta (Ubuntu)
