@slurm no, your issue is completely unrelated (though installing the
newer drivers resolves the issue)

@Stefan Is it completely necessary to specify the model? In other words,
remove your addition from alsa-base.conf, perform a complete powercycle
(power down for 2 minutes, then power back up), and report whether sound
is audible (possibly after changing mixer settings -- but NOT a model
quirk).
