Since this seems to fix it, you can permanently replace ohci1394 + ieee1394 + sbp2 by the newer drivers firewire-ohci + firewire-core + firewire-sbp2. Check for relevant configuration files with "grep -r -e firewire -e 1394 /etc/mod*" and have a look at http://ieee1394.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/Juju_Migration#How_to_suppress_auto-loading
(I don't have Ubuntu installed here hence I don't know which particular config files need to be changed.)
