I put the laptop to sleep by closing its lid (this feature did not work in Ubuntu Jaunty).
When I tried to restore it, by toggling the power button, I heard the Ubuntu "ready" sound, but the screen staid black/blank. I could still move the mouse.

When I tried to switch to a terminal with CTL+ATL+F1, the screen would
appear with weird bars running through it, but I could not access the
prompt.
