You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Since Lucid Beta1 release I've been trying to install Ubuntu (Daily by
netboot CD) on two similar computers based on AMD AM2 motherboard with
Via K8M890 chipset (including Via Chrome IGP) each time a new version of
kernel have been proposed but it has never been able to reboot properly
once succesfully installed, even in single console mode : quickly after
leaving grub "fast esoteric characters columns" eventually appear on
screen then freeze and then even keybord is not listened at all... so
that since grub no message appear to be read on screen and nothing else
remain possible other than hard reboot for another system (like Ubuntu
Karmic like a charm for example).
To be noticed :
- no problem if I add-on and use a dedicated PCI-Express graphic card
on the motherboard slot ! (either an AMD Radeon or a NVIDIA Geforce one)
- no problem if I first install Karmic base system to have a 2.6.31-*
kernel and then reboot to dist-upgrade to Lucid, then keeping booting
only on the remaining Karmic 2.6.31-* kernel.
Good luck helping with it for the huge amount of such widespread budget
hardware...
