Dmesg gives the following messages when running any piece of software
that might use the webcam (I've tested aMSN, cheese and Ekiga):

[  981.040108] rtl8187: wireless radio switch turned off
[  981.120293] wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:18:39:2f:ba:b2 by local choice (reason=3)

I was able to make cheese run by doing a sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/uvcvideo.conf and writing the following line in there:
options uvcvideo quirks=1

With this, I am able to run cheese once with the web cam working
properly. Running cheese again or trying to run any other software has
so far resulted in the same behaviour as described earlier.
