I ran the test again and this time I saw an error something like
"insufficient swap space" flash by and then oddly enough a picture of
the milky way galaxy.  When it came back, it didn't seem messed up
though.  Do I need to increase the size of my swap file then?

I ran the command you asked about.  I tested it on Linux ubuntu9
2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 12 04:38:19 UTC 2010 x86_64
GNU/Linux
