Public bug reported:

This is similar to bug 162671, but it is the VT6655 which also not
supported under similar circumstances (via has released code, but it is
only for ubuntu 9.04). It appears in the git for later kernels. I was
able to follow instructions in the other bug thread and get the vt6656
module to compile, but that does not help me as my hardware is VT6655.
It is also a USB based wireless 'card' and is built into the computer I
am using. I have compiled the latest via driver (for 9.04) and wireless
works, but the driver complains and hangs when I try to shut down the
machine requiring a power switch to reboot (the error appears related to
acpi and a mismatch in what is being sent and what it understands). I
could reply to VIA on this, but since it appears that this card is
supported under a later kernel, any help backporting this would be
appreciated.

I did try a similar edit to the Makefile in the git repository, as was
mentioned in the other bug list, but did not have any joy.

Trying to get it working under ubuntu 9.10, kernel 2.6.31-20

I found the git here:
