Public bug reported:
I tried to boot Ubuntu 10.04 beta 2 but the boot process failed before
the install menu was displayed. It got to the point where there was a
purple background and a while square appeared in the middle but that's
when the boot process stalled. I could open a console window with Ctrl-
Alt-F1 (and switch back to the white square screen with Ctrl-Alt-F7). In
the console window, an error message kept appearing every few seconds
but that's it.
The computer in question is a Packard Bell EasyNote MZ35. It works fine
with Ubuntu 9.04 but I've had a lot of problems with 9.10. Those
problems seem to be resolved by now but I still stick to 9.04 for
everyday use. The computer has an ATI Radeon 200M video card, I suspect
that's related to the problem
