Confirmed with both suspend and hibernate on Ubuntu 9.10 on a HP Pavilion dv5029US.
It seems to suspend successfully, but on booting it stays on a black screen (no back-light) and seems to be stuck.
Hibernation also seems fine, but booting into Ubuntu again works fine and Ubuntu says "Waking up. Please wait...". Later, it gets stuck in the same old black screen without back-light problem as it does with suspending.

Caps lock can not be toggled on/off during the black screens.
