Public bug reported:

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu from the image of 14 April. Kernel
version is 2.6.32-20

On bootup, the system does not recognise UUID numbers. It will only work
with /dev/sdX notation.

Unfortunately, it does not assign the same /dev/sdX designations to the
drives on each bootup. This makes it a matter of luck whether I get to
boot up at all.

I have one sata and two IDE internal drives.

I've been having this problem for several months. The Karmic kernel
doesn't recognise UUIDs either, but it is consistent about what it calls
the drives.

I know that I could remove the IDE drives, but I don't want to have to
discard two working drives.

Output of lspci -nn -vv is attached.

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
