I am still experiencing this issue with today's kernel updates applied.

$ uname -a
Linux mitch-lucid 2.6.32-21-generic #31-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 13 20:34:00 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

I have attached a photo showing where it hangs in the boot process
