After it failed the first time I got the options and I ran through all the options and it didn't work.  I saw 2 different build versions, then the 2 recovery modes and then the memory check .  I also ran the option that said something like "Reset grub" or something like that and that didn't help either.  The best I could do was to get to the command line, thats when I gave up.   I've gone back to 9.04 again and that is running fine.  Too bad too, I really liked the newer version a lot when it was running.
