Now the serial converter works well again, tested with:

- Ubuntu 9.10, Kernel 2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 12 05:23:09 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
- Ubuntu10.4 RC, Kernel 2.6.32-21-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 16 08:10:02 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux

Sorry for not posting back before, but after the problems encountered I
bought a new serial converter with a FTDI chip inside and put the
Edgeport in a drawer ;-)
